Dear Parents,

Welcome, cold front! It has been an exciting day here at CCE. All of us
have been on watch for sleet and snowflakes! The cold weather is the
perfect addition to our new unit in Science on weather and climate.

Please make plans to join us for our Fifth Grade Valentine Party!
Parent/guardian helpers who are setting up start at 1 pm (homeroom
parents have those details) and the party rotations start at 1:50 pm. I
know that your child will be thrilled if one of you can be there!

Stay warm and have a great weekend!

or on the LIBRARY WEBSITE.

Needed: Clear, 2-Liter Soda Bottles with Lids
We are halfway to our grade level goal! Keep sending bottles!
A favorite activity in 5th grade Science is building Aquaterras (half
aquarium, half terrarium).  Each aquaterra requires (2) 2- liter,
crystal clear (not green), smooth soda/water bottles. With several sets,
we can offer smaller groups and more hands on opportunities for our
students. 5th grade teachers are offering comet cash for the bottles.
Please think of us if you have a party or an event with these types of
bottles. We would appreciate them rinsed out and with the label
peeled off as cleanly as possible. Thirty more bottles are needed.
The smoother, the better. Thank you!

Week of Feb. 4th

Dear Parents,

Wow! It is February already? Time goes by so fast. This week in Science, we explored the relationship between the Sun, the Moon, and the Earth. We explored the solar system with a 3D VR experience using iPads and Merge Cubes. We continue our study of the events in the American Revolution in Social Studies. In math, we wrapped our decimal place value, addition, and subtraction. Now, we are moving onto multiplication and division with decimal models. We’ve drawn plot maps in Reading and are wrapping up our book club story quilts next week. And those imaginative stories have got us laughing out loud in Language Arts.

Have a very happy Friday,

The Fifth Grade Team

Please share your feedback about Canyon Creek Elementary by taking our Parent Climate
Survey. The survey will only be open until February 9th.

Valentine’s Day is coming soon! We hope you can join us for our grade level party that
afternoon. Please see the note about bringing valentines for everyone in the class. While
we need mailboxes to receive treats, the Fifth Grade Team strongly encourages students
to recycle to make new boxes or upcycle to convert last year’s box or bag into this year’s

mailbox. Be good to our planet Earth!

Weekly Newsletter, January 25, 2019

Dear Parents,

Thank you for joining us last night for STEAM Night. The students worked very hard  and were excited to showcase their Operation Games. The night was a great success. I took lots of photos and will email again once they are uploaded.

Did you take any photos? Please add them to this shared Google Drive folder so all parents can see, too! If you love to take photos, let me know! We do so much cool stuff here at school. I get lost in the moment and forget to take pictures. Yikes!

Please take a few minutes to fill out the Parent Climate Survey for the district. It means a lot to us when you share your feedback. Each day staff, students and volunteers at Canyon Creek Elementary work hard to ensure academic programs and the campus environment meet the needs of all children.
The survey will only be open until February 9th.

Don't forget to save the date: Our Valentine's Day Party will be on Thursday, Feb. 14th at 2:00 pm. The homeroom parents have lots of fun events planned. We hope you can come and enjoy this fun time with your child!

Happy Friday!

Dreambox Math
A login information for your student has been given to your student (Moya Math class has it taped in their planners). Encourage them to give it a try. I have assigned some lessons but they also can choose lessons to try. The content goes back to 3rd grade if they struggle and up into middle school math if they need a challenge. So far, I am hearing good things! Let us know what you think!
